Punk rock, much like indie rock, has long out-grown its mere musical definition. It exists as a catch-all phrase that has somehow miraculously survived several points of dilution over the years. That said, when one uses the term punk rock, there is an undeniable and understood inference: it's a fierce, intransigent form of communication that speaks volumes of the frustration (and of course much more) we face daily. With that in mind, Stephen Ramsay's excellent story, likening Public Enemy's hip hop debut classic as 'his punk rock,' not only makes sense, but is wholly accurate to punk's broad definition.
